swarm synthesizer

swarm is a realtime granular synthesis & audio spatialization environment made in Max 8.

- record sound into a looping buffer. you can keep sound recording and overwriting old sounds, or you can freeze it in time.

- swarm will chop the audio into 24 unique grains that are each manipulated independently. depending on how you set the granular synthesizer, each grain could be played back at different speeds, filtered, and/or reversed.

- each grain of sound is assigned to an independent object that moves around space as an individual in a group. they are distributed throughout simulated space using a "boid algorithm," which aims to replicate the behavior of a flock of birds moving together.

- you can then filter the sound output of all grains at once using the filter at the end of the chain. it is very fun and interactable for realtime processing and expressive usecases.

- you can guide the flock and influence the way that they interact with one-another using the spatializer module.
